Job Summary
The Department of Oncology at Aga Khan University Hospital is a patient-centered comprehensive state-of-the-art cancer management facility. The main objective of the department is to provide first-class, leading-edge cancer services and it is equipped with 3 medical Linear accelerators, 1 HDR brachytherapy after loader, 1 conventional simulator, mold room and a PET-CT simulator.
It will be a two-year Postgraduate Diploma designed to produce highly trained personnel who can make a direct contribution to the improvement of healthcare through better radiation therapy practices. The training programme consists of didactic courses and clinical hands-on experience related to radiation therapy treatment delivery.
The traineeship programme is designed to provide training in:
- radiotherapy process
- patient Simulation setup and use of various immobilization devices
- external Beam Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and special procedures pertaining to Radiation Therapy
- use of medical imaging equipment to ensure treatments are delivered accurately
- assess patients’ reactions to treatments and provide advice and methods of alleviating the side effects of treatments
- quality assurance tests on simulation and treatment machines to ensure they are in working order
- compliance to organizational policies and standards of quality care.
Required Skills
- a Bachelor’s in Science degree from a recognized university and completed 16 years of education, preferably a Master’s degree
- good interpersonal skills and an appetite for learning
- ability to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams
- willingness to work in shifts.
