Job Summary

The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan is seeking a seasoned and Dynamic Nutrition and MNCH Officer under GAVI-SNIP Project for District (Thatta & Sajawal) in Sindh Region.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Engage and coordinate with district-level stakeholders such as DHO, Health facility in charge, LHWs, vaccinators and Union Council (UC)-level notables, including religious persons to ensure the smooth implementation of MNCH and nutrition activities and to improve demand for the same through social mobilization.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor field activity plans based on the project work plan and timeline with reporting to District Coordinator as well as senior management in the region.
  • Regularly visit health facilities for supervision, guidance and monitoring of MNCH and Nutrition intervention and take correction actions for the identified gaps in coordination with district coordinator and DHMT
  • Build and sustain strong liaison with other agencies such as Government counterparts, WHO/UNICEF, AKRSP, WFO, BISP Nashunuma nutrition program on the ground to ensure effective implementation of MNCH and Nutrition activities.
  • Collect field data, ensure its quality, completion, and timely reporting as per program and donor guidelines.
  • Assist the District Coordinator in developing a robust and functional referral mechanism for malnourished (stunted, wasted, low birth weight preterm, etc.), unimmunized children, complicated and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Identify training needs of staff and conduct and monitor capacity-building trainings for healthcare providers and related field staff at the project sites (such as LHWs, CMWs, LHVs, Nurses, Doctors, Vaccinators, etc.) on MNCH and nutrition interventions with the support of project staff
  • Participate in weekly/monthly progress review meetings, share progress and existing issues in MNCH and Nutrition, and resolve the same in consultation with the DHMT and program team.
  • Assist in conducting baseline and endline assessments surveys in the district
  • Engage and mobilize district and UC level health committees on effective MNCH and Nutrition interventions and practices, including safe delivery practices, antenatal, delivery, postnatal care, nutrition, and diet during and after delivery in coordination with District Coordinator
  • Screen pregnant, and lactating women and children under 3 for Nutrition anomalies and manage and refer malnourished mothers and children (SAM, MAM & LBW) to health facilities.
  •  Identify good nutritional practices through positive deviance approach and incorporate into behavior change activities.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of the nutrition activities and provide recommendation to improve the nutrition status of mothers and children.
  • In coordination with the District Coordinator ensure provision of MNCH and nutrition supplies.

 

Required Skills

Education, Skills & Competencies:

  • Bachelor/Diploma in Nursing OR bachelors/master’s degree in public health, Nutrition, or health related field
  • At least 2- 3 years of relevant experience in MNCH and Nutrition related activities
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of MNCH and nutrition principles, policies and guidelines
  • Experience with national and international organizations or NGOs preferably in MNCH and Nutrition would be and added advantage.
  • Strong collaboration and coordination skills to engage and closely work with Government Health Department and program management team to plan and implementation project activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills in Data management, analytical and report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, project management and teamwork skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work in resources constrained and remote communities.
  • Fluency in local languages and English.
