Reporting to the member Habitat of the Institution, the incumbent would be responsible for providing technical and managerial support to the Member Habitat, Office Bearers, and various Habitat Committees formed at the National and Regional levels related to Habitat-related issues, programs, and activities. Programs envisaged include:
Roles and Responsibilities:
Climate Change: Promoting Climate Change related activities to make the institute a more climate-responsive community. This would include audits of existing buildings and setting them on a net- Carbon zero pathway, as well as creating awareness and technical competencies to move the rest of the community and institutions towards reduced carbon footprint and adaptation pathways for climate resilience future.
Urban Habitat Issues: Undertaking various initiatives to improve the maintenance and upkeep of various urban colonies to improve their quality of living conditions and extend the useful life of the buildings. Other initiatives with similar objectives would also be undertaken for the community in urban areas throughout Pakistan, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat.
Migration and Land Banking: Developing and implementing land banking and settlement planning for in-migration in urban and peri-urban areas throughout Pakistan, with the assistance of Aga Khan Ismailia Charitable Trust and other Community Resource Organizations.
Community Development: Work with Aga Khan Estate Office and Aga Khan Agency for Habitat in the planning and designing of Community Centers, including need assessment, identification of land, and liaising with Regional and Local levels on various related aspects.
Community Habitat Needs in Rural Areas: Various institutions have been working to improve the Habitat conditions of the community in rural areas, including the provision of infrastructure, housing, and resettlement planning. However, the identification of needs and gaps that remain unaddressed still needs to be pursued.
Disaster Mitigation and Management: A significant percentage of the community in Northern Pakistan lives in areas of vulnerability to natural disasters. Developing and implementing strategies to reduce this risk, in collaboration with other AKDN agencies and Regional and Local Institutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
The candidate must have at least 10 years of relevant experience, at a Senior management position, in many of the above-mentioned sectors, ideally working for a National/International or a development agency.
A master's degree in the relevant field of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or Environmental Sciences, etc from a reputable University would be desirable.
