Job Summary

The AKDN Diplomatic Office in Kenya are seeking a Management & Programme Liaison Officer (“MPLO”, “Management Officer”) to be based in Nairobi. The Management Officer will play a variety of roles including, for example, managing a small office, convening meetings between AKDN agencies and maintaining relationships with Government departments and other diplomatic missions relevant to our activities.

The other responsibilities of the Management Officer include:

  • Oversee the application of various arrangements and processes related to AKDN's Protocols with the Government of Kenya including certain exemptions covering taxes, customs duties, work permits and other diplomatic privileges.
  • Convene meetings of AKDN agencies for collaborative initiatives, including executive fora, security matters, property matters and network purchasing. 
  • When required, support the communications activities of AKDN in respect of programmes of interest to various stakeholders including Government and the broader community. 
  • Support AKDN agencies in their relationships with Government and, if required, help facilitate their input into policy dialogue.

The ideal candidate should have the following profile:

  • A keen appreciation of the objectives and ethical underpinnings of AKDN.
  • An ability to learn quickly about the broad range of AKDN programmes and activities;
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate issues in English, both orally and in writing;
  • Prior experience in a supervisory capacity;
  • Good project management and action management skills.
  • A professional background (e.g. legal, finance, communications, etc.) would be highly desirable;
  • A solid educational ability to carry out research and analysis;
  • A self-starter committed to putting in the time that is required to complete the work.

An effective Management Officer will be someone with strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills. The Management Officer should be able to adapt to a constantly evolving environment and have the ability to gain the trust of AKDN agencies, institutions and external stakeholders.
