Job Summary

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan is seeking experienced Geologists to join its HVRA team in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in earth sciences and geology, with a focus on conducting field investigations studies, site specific assessment, analyzing geological data, HVRA surveys, Natural and man-made hazard assessments   and providing valuable insights for various projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site specific assessment of geological, geo-hydrological and hydro-meteorological hazards (landslides, rock fall, floods, debris flow and avalanches etc.),
  • Contribute in undertaking  geotechnical and detail investigation studies of geological hazards
  • Develop and test various hazard assessment tools and village level tools to capture the quality data.
  • Undertake  surveys, mapping exercises in the field, in strengthening the field database for land use planning, feeding in data and drafting maps.
  • Identify risk reduction indicators and propose viable solution for risk mitigation to the infrastructure in consideration of the probability and intensity of the hazards.
  • Conduct geological field surveys to collect rock, soil, and water samples .
  • Perform geological mapping to identify and document the composition and structure and potential hazard identification.
  • Analyze geological data using advanced software and tools.
  • Interpret seismic, geophysical, and geochemical data to assess subsurface conditions.
  • Assess and characterize the geological suitability of sites for construction, mining, or environmental projects.
  • Provide recommendations based on geological findings to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Evaluate geological risks and hazards, such as landslides, earthquakes, and soil instability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive geological reports detailing findings, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Present findings to project stakeholders and regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Contribute to environmental impact assessments by assessing geological factors that may influence project sustainability.
  • Contribute to research initiatives aimed at expanding the understanding of geological processes.

Required Skills

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
  • At least three years of experience as a Geologist, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork.
  • Proficiency in geological software and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
