Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable General Teacher to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching a broad range of subjects to students at the primary or elementary level, ensuring that they develop foundational skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy, social studies, and science. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, fostering a positive learning environment, assessing student progress, and promoting the overall development of young learners.

Role and Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning and Instruction:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that cover a range of subjects, including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including direct instruction, group work, interactive activities, and technology, to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Classroom Management:

  • Create a safe, supportive, and organized classroom environment where students are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and engage in the learning process.
  • Establish clear rules, routines, and behavioral expectations to foster a respectful and focused classroom atmosphere.

Student Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Regularly assess students’ academic progress through tests, quizzes, homework, projects, and classroom participation.
  • Provide constructive feedback and tailor instructional methods to address the individual learning needs of students.

Support for Student Development:

  • Help students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication.
  • Promote social and emotional growth by encouraging positive interactions among students and teaching conflict resolution strategies.

Collaboration with Colleagues and Parents:

  • Work closely with fellow teachers, school administrators, and staff to coordinate curriculum planning, share resources, and discuss student progress.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians, providing updates on student performance and discussing ways to support learning at home.

Adaptation to Student Needs:

  • Identify and support students with diverse learning needs, including those with special educational needs or those who require additional academic support.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and paces.

Curriculum and Resource Development:

  • Create or adapt teaching materials and resources that enhance student learning and align with curriculum standards.
  • Incorporate the use of digital tools and technology to enrich the learning experience.

Professional Development:

  • Stay informed about the latest educational practices, instructional strategies, and technological tools through ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, workshops, and training sessions to improve teaching effectiveness.

Student Well-Being:

  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students by fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Recognize signs of emotional or learning difficulties and work with support staff to provide appropriate interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.

Strong Subject Knowledge:

  • Broad understanding of core subjects such as literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies to effectively teach a wide range of topics.

Classroom Management:

  • Ability to maintain a structured, positive, and well-disciplined learning environment that fosters student participation and respect.

Lesson Planning and Organization:

  • Skill in designing engaging, age-appropriate lessons that meet curriculum standards and cater to the diverse learning needs of students.

Communication Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and engage with parents and colleagues.

Adaptability:

  • Flexibility to modify teaching strategies and lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, and paces.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Proficiency in assessing student progress through tests, assignments, and participation, and the ability to use data to inform teaching methods.

Creativity in Teaching:

  • Ability to use creative and interactive teaching techniques, including technology and hands-on activities, to make lessons interesting and engaging.

Emotional Intelligence and Patience:

  • High emotional intelligence to understand and respond to students' emotional and social needs, and the patience to work with students who may need extra support.

Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to handle classroom challenges, behavioral issues, and conflicts among students with sensitivity and professionalism.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Ability to work effectively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to create a supportive educational environment and share resources.
