Job Summary

The Communication Specialist will manage communication functions, both internally and externally, ensuring clarity, consistency and effectiveness in messaging. The role is crucial in shaping and maintaining the organization’s communication system and contributing to its overall success and reputation.

Responsibilities:

Leverage Social Media Platforms:

  • Create content that educates, entertains, and engages (e.g., behind-the-scenes videos, live performances, interviews, interactive Q&A sessions).
  • Promote user-generated content to foster a community feeling and encourage visitors to share experiences using a specific hashtag.

Collaborate with Local Artists and Influencers:

  • Partner with local artists for exclusive content creation (artworks, performances) to share on social media.
  • Work with cultural influencers to promote events and exhibitions, expanding reach.

Strategic Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with AKDN agencies and the global communication team to align strategies and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Develop and execute communication plans to promote AKCSP's projects and events.

Content Creation:

  • Create engaging content for various channels (press releases, blog posts, feature articles).
  • Publish articles or essays from curators or local historians to offer insights into AKCSP’s cultural work.
  • Develop visual content (photos, videos, infographics) to support storytelling.

Event Coverage:

  • Provide comprehensive coverage of events at Lahore Fort, Wazir Khan Mosque and other AKCSP sites.
  • Coordinate with site managers and team leads to gather necessary information and materials.

Social Media Management:

  • Manage AKCSP's social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), including content creation, scheduling and engagement.
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance and provide regular reports.

Newsletter Production:

  • Create and distribute monthly or bi-monthly newsletters to stakeholders, donors and the public.
  • Gather and compile news, stories and updates from various AKCSP sites and projects.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain and update communication databases, media lists and distribution lists.
  • Ensure the smooth administrative running of digital platforms and pages.

Press and Public Relations:

  • Cultivate relationships with the media and invite journalists to previews of events or exhibitions.
  • Release compelling stories and information to capture the interest of cultural reporters and bloggers.

Reporting and Evaluation:

  • Regularly report on communication activities, outcomes, and impact to the supervisor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and recommend improvements.

Required Skills

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Certifications from professional bodies like the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) are advantageous.
  • 4-6 years’ experience in a communication role.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms (social media, content management systems, analytics tools).
  • Analytical skills to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management abilities.
  • Familiarity with the cultural and historical context of AKCSP sites is an asset.
