Job Summary

The Clinic Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and clinical support to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. This role involves direct patient interaction, clerical duties, and assistance with medical procedures, contributing to a positive patient experience and efficient clinic workflow.

Role and Responsibilities:

Patient Interaction:

  • Greet and assist patients as they arrive.
  • Obtain and record patient information and medical history.
  • Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage patient inquiries.
  • Provide patients with information regarding clinic procedures and policies.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality.
  • Process insurance claims and verify patient insurance coverage.
  • Manage appointment scheduling and maintain an organized calendar.
  • Handle billing and payment processing.

Clinical Support:

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare examination rooms and sterilize medical equipment.
  • Measure and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and administer medications under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

General Duties:

  • Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the clinic.
  • Restock medical supplies and inventory as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient care.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to operate medical instruments and equipment.

 

Required Skills

Educational Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certification or diploma in medical assisting or a related healthcare field (preferred).
  • Additional training in medical terminology, first aid, and CPR (advantageous).

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting such as a clinic, hospital, or doctor's office (preferred).
  • Experience with administrative tasks and patient care activities (preferred).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic healthcare procedures.
  • Attention to detail to accurately maintain patient records and handle administrative tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle patient inquiries and concerns.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed (typically up to 25 pounds).
  • Manual dexterity to operate medical instruments and equipment.
  • Good visual and auditory abilities to interact with patients and healthcare providers.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from an accredited institution (preferred but not always required).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification (preferred).
